I am a specialist in the field of new religious movements, with a background in both South Asian religions and American religions. I have interests in the New Age, Paganism, South Asian religious movements, conversion/apostasy and violence & religion. Though trained as an historian of religion, my dominant approach to religious phenomena is sociological. I have been teaching in Norway since 2010. I also taught in the University of Wisconsin system for ten years. I currently edit two scholarly journals and co-edit three academic book series.
